Berlin is big, loud and diverse. Each neighbourhood, or as Berliners call them: “Kiez”, has its own charm and so much to offer - it can get hard to decide what to explore first. We have put together the best tips for your perfect weekend in Berlin.

Discover the most famous sights, such as the Brandenburger Tor, Potsdamer Platz or the Berlin wall called “East Side Gallery” with a tour guide or an independent tour with an audio guide.

If you want to see as much of Berlin as possible in a short amount of time, we recommend the East-Side-Tour, a boat tour along the Spree river passing all the exciting sights.

Besides these highlights, Berlin has a lot more to offer. We show you the best activities for a perfect weekend in Berlin, far away from tourist attractions and hotels nearby.

Holzmarkt, Friedrichshain

View over the site of Holzmarkt in Berlin Friedrichshain
Our absolute favourite for a relaxed and sunny morning is the Holzmarkt. However, it is not a market, as the name might imply. Instead, you'll find small stores, cafes and food stalls here.

The restaurant Katerschmaus and an outdoor bar invite you to end your day here. The best part, though, is the many seating options in the green and directly at the shore of the Spree.

Get yourself a fresh cinnamon bun from the small bakery at the back of the site and enjoy it by the water - but take good care of your snack because the little birds are quite cunning and are not afraid to steal the delicious treat right out of your hand.

In Friedrichshain, we recommend the Hotel Indigo located right at the East Side Gallery. From here, you can reach the Holzmarkt, the Mercedes Benz Arena or the Oberbaumbrücke in a few minutes by foot. Thanks to the Ostbahnhof and the Warschauer Straße S-Bahn station nearby, you are well connected to all of Berlin's surrounding districts.

Hackesche Höfe, Mitte

Hackesche Höfe in Berlin Mitte
A must-see in Berlin are the Hackesche Höfe. It can get a bit more crowded and touristy here sometimes, but it is worth a visit in any case.

The maze of courtyards near Hackescher Markt is beautifully designed. The house facades are tiled in all sorts of colours, and the small gardens in the middle of the squares invite you to take a breather. Within the total of 8 courtyards, many small stores come to light, from cafes to a cinema and high-end fashion. You can find everything here.

If you want to stay within walking distance of the Alexanderplatz, the Museum Island and the Hackesche Höfe, then we have just the right hotel for you. The 3-star Classik Hotel Hackescher Markt is ideally located and leaves nothing to be desired on your weekend trip.

Do you prefer to stay in an apartment? We recommend the Apartments Rosenthaler Residence! They are located in the heart of Mitte, where you are well connected and can experience the Berlin lifestyle up close.

Food & Drinks rund um Berlin

Look into Monkey Bar Berlin
Whether a guided food tour or restaurant recommendations, we have picked the best places in Berlin for you.

We recommend the Berlin Food Tour by bike, to get to know the culinary specialities in Prenzlauer Berg and discover a lot along the way. The restaurants are regional and absolute favourites with the locals - best for getting to know Berlin’s authentic food culture.

If you love sushi, then KingKing Sushi in Mitte is a must-do. Huge portions and the arrangement of the sushi menus will blow you away - and that for a small price. In addition to the sushi, we recommend trying spring rolls. They won’t taste so fresh anywhere else.

Have you always wanted to eat above the roofs of Berlin or end the evening with a cocktail overlooking the city at sunset? Why not both! On the 10th floor of the 25hour Hotel at the zoo, you'll find NENI Berlin on the left and Monkey Bar on the right.

NENI originates in Austria and opened restaurants in 10 different cities across Europe by now. You can expect a cuisine inspired by Mediterranean, Persian and Austrian influences.

After dinner, you can head straight to the Monkey Bar, which is only a hallway length away. The bar's name comes from the adjacent zoo as, from the terrace, you can easily look into the zoo's monkey enclosure. The view over the rest of the city is, after all, unbeatable!

To end your weekend with an authentic Berlin speciality, we recommend Curry36. Probably one of the most famous currywurst stands in Berlin and, in our opinion, worth the hype. However, if you don't want to wait in a queue, visit the store directly at the Warschauer Straße S-Bahn station in Friedrichshain because it's much quieter than the original store at Bahnhof Zoo.

Stand-Up Comedy at Comedy Flash, Prenzlauer Berg

Comedy Flash Comedy Bar Berlin Prenzlauerberg
Never been to a stand-up comedy show? Always up for a laugh? Then we have just the thing for you! Tati Goes Underground in Prenzlauer Berg hosts Comedy Flash shows every night (except Mondays).

From well-known artists to newcomers, here, you can find them all, and we can only say: It is worth it! In the front at the bar, you get delicious drinks - our favourite is the Whiskey Sour - and in the back, you can enjoy the show.

For English speakers, we recommend Cosmic Comedy, which is just around the corner.

The Hampton by Hilton Hotel at Alexanderplatz is just a 15-minute walk from the bar. So, why don’t you take a nice, short walk through Leisepark on your way there?

You see, Berlin does not only offer its eventful history and many sights to offer but, knowing the right places, you can experience the city like a local. There is no other way to really get to know a city.
