Grey skies, rain, lack of sunshine, January is often a depressing month. January is also known as Blues Monday, the day considered to be the most depressing of the year! So why not counter all that by taking a trip in January? Whether you're looking for a short break or a long trip, here are the best 2023 destinations around the world. Are you coming?

Nature and hiking trips

Vacances randonnées et montagnes

Do you love nature and open spaces? Do you prefer to avoid crowds? We know what you mean. January is also a month to recharge your batteries and recharge your batteries before starting the New Year.

A trip to Asia?

India is a country rich in treasures and will not leave you indifferent. While the country is known for its hustle and bustle, it is also home to a variety of beautiful landscapes. The Kerala region, in the far south-west of India, is home to many spice, coffee and tea plantations. With numerous lakes, rivers and lagoons, boat trips are a must.

If your favourite natural element is the mountains, then we highly recommend the region of Ladakh and its spectacular mountains. Leh, its capital, is one of the highest cities in the world. Meet its inhabitants and learn more about the countless treasures of this small valley.

Discover America

Colombia is an excellent destination for January. With temperatures ranging from 24 to 31 degrees on average, you can enjoy both the Pacific Ocean and the Caribbean Sea. With an Amazon rainforest and the Sierra Nevada de Santa Marta mountain range, you'll be discovering an exceptional natural environment, as well as a warm and friendly population.

Voyage city trip

city trip

A short break to visit several cities, or just one, such as a major capital, can do a lot of good this January. It's a short getaway, away from the daily grind, perfect for recharging the batteries.

City trip to Rome

We love Italy, and we love it all year round. There are so many things to do in Italy, so many places, dishes and museums to discover that you can easily go there several times a year. What we love about Italy is the dolce vitae, because one foot in Italy is guaranteed happiness.

We had already prepared an article for you on the top 10 most popular for inspiration.

City trip to Berlin

The capital of Germany, Berlin is a dynamic city where you're sure not to get bored. Rich in history, it's ideal for a weekend out with friends or family. Take a thick winter jumper, as the temperatures may be a little chilly, a tourist guide and book your plane tickets to Berlin.

A holiday in the sun?

January is the month when we all dream of one thing: sunshine. So if you can't find it in Paris at the moment, why not head for a sunny destination? South Asia? New Zealand? Costa Rica? Come and discover the beaches and seabed with us this first month of the year.

Australia, land of the kangaroos

Australie vacances au soleil en janvier

A faraway but exotic destination is just what we need for 2023. So we're setting sail for Australia, and Sydney in particular. With so many things to do in Sydney, we've come up with the top 3 not to be missed:

  • The Sydney Opera House: a majestic sight day and night.
  • The Queen Victoria: now a huge shopping centre.
  • The Harbour Bridge: for a long time this was considered to be the highest bridge in the world, and although this is no longer the case, it is still the widest, at 50 metres at any rate.

Sri Lanka in the Indian Ocean

Sri Lanka isn't exactly a tourist destination, but it's well worth a visit, especially for travellers looking for a change of scenery and an exotic environment, and especially during the dry season. In January, we recommend a visit to Colombo. The city is rich in culture and is now the economic heart of the country, with a wide range of activities.

You can visit the national museum to travel through all the eras of the country's history, visit the Pettah district, one of the oldest in the city, or see the temple of Sri Kailawasanathan Swami Devasthanam Kovil (the name is difficult to pronounce, but believe us it's impressive).

Destinations to avoid in January

We wouldn't recommend Northern Europe for January: it's cold, the skies are grey and it's not exactly ideal. Unless you like low temperatures, in which case Norway or Sweden are ideal for you! North America may also not be the best place to spend January. Especially in New York, where you could easily find yourself in a snowstorm! As for the American West, we prefer to visit in the spring, which is much more pleasant.

If this selection has inspired you to travel in January or February, or throughout the year, let us know. We love to see your holiday snaps. And if not, you can always stay at home and start planning your next big holiday with Flightgift now.
