Where to Celebrate Cinco de Mayo This Year
On Sunday the 5th of May the world will be celebrating Cinco de Mayo – the annual celebration of the Mexican army’s victory over the French Empire in the Battle of Puebla in 1862. This celebration is not taken lightly, so we wanted to give you tips on where to celebrate Cinco de Mayo this year.
San Diego, California
San Diego will host a huge festival dedicated to Cinco de Mayo between the 3rd-5th of May with three staged throughout the Old Town and the State Park. The festival will have the food and drink specials all weekend long and have a range of music and entertainment shows.
If you want to spend Cinco de Mayo dancing your life away then head to Denver. You will find another exciting festival in the Civic Center Park. From the 4th-5th of May, they will have a 32nd annual Cinco de Mayo celebration running from 10 am to 8 pm. The activities will include the annual chihuahua race, a taco eating contest (who will dare?) and great live music and dance performances.
No other city in Mexico celebrated Cinco de Mayo as Puebla does. This day is a major public holiday in the city to honour and celebrate the battle. Here you will find yourself celebrating Cinco de Mayo slightly differently. Perhaps you will even witness a battle reenactment and then a grandiose military parade. Festivities then continue onto the dancing, singing, food and drink.
Saint Paul, Minnesota
In Saint Paul, you can celebrate Cinco de Mayo at the Cinco de Mayo Westside. This festival is perfect for families. It will run on Saturday the 4th of May from 9 am to 4 pm. It will be a day filled with cultural entertainment, activities and great atmosphere. There will be family Energy and Sports zones with activities like rock climbing and bouncy castles.
This is your destination for some Cinco de Mayo Lucha Libre. Cinco de Mayo festival in Phoenix is the largest one in Arizona. It has been around for 26 years and entertained over 3 million attendees. The gates will open at 12 pm. After that guests can enjoy great music, food and activities.
