Winter and the pre-Christmas season not only shine with many lights and countless Christmas markets in Germany, but also let you get active on skating rinks all over the country. Skating once is now almost part of the winter. So let yourself be inspired where you can find the best ice rinks in Germany and get on your way.

Ice rink at the Neptune Fountain, Berlin

Ice skating rink at the neptun fountain in Berlin
Our first destination is in the center of Berlin. The large and diverse city has a wide variety of skating rinks, but our favorite is the one at the Neptunbrunnen near Alexanderplatz. The ice forms in a circle around the fountain and invites you to ice skate in Berlin. Surrounded by the Red Town Hall and the Max Engels Forum, you can enjoy a great backdrop and admire the TV tower in the background at the same time.

If you want to stay nearby, then the Adina Apartment Hackescher Markt is exactly the right hotel for you. Only a 4-minute walk away, it has the perfect location for your winter trip to the capital. Would you rather look at the Neptune Fountain from above and watch the ice skaters? The best way to do that is over a cozy evening at TV tower restaurant with a view of the city and the ice rink.

Ice rink at the Zollverein colliery in Essen

We're honest, at first you don't think of the Zeche Zollverein in Essen as an ice rink. The colliery and the industrial area are now part of the UNESCO World Heritage and a trip there is worthwhile all year round. In the winter months, however, the outside area of the colliery is transformed into an ice rink along the building, attracting countless visitors to ice skate every year. Book the niu Cobbles in the center of town and drive to the colliery in the 6th district.

Ice rink at Heumarkt, Cologne

Ice skating rink at the Heumarkt in Cologne
Known for its large Christmas market at the cathedral, Cologne hosts many more spread across the city. At the Christmas market at Heumarkt you will find a beautiful ice skating rink between crepes and handicrafts. The traditional Christmas market and its hustle and bustle can be observed excellently from the ice. Do your laps while ice skating and then enjoy a hot chocolate or a mulled wine at one of the countless stands. Stay at the Maritim Hotel to be right there, because from there you can walk to the ice rink at Heumarkt in 2 minutes.

Eissalon Ruhr, Bochum

Unlike the other ice rinks, you won't find our next tip outdoors. The Eissalon Ruhr in Bochum is located in the Jahrhunderthalle in Westpark, a 120-year-old industrial building. The rustic flair makes this ice skating rink something very special. Here you can put your ice skating skills to the test and at the same time admire the meter-high ceilings with thick steel girders.

The great thing about this ice rink is that you can skate at any time, even in wind and weather. Take a trip to Bochum to still be active on a rainy Sunday.

If you want to stay overnight in Bochum, we recommend the GHOTEL hotel & living Bochum. From there, you can walk to the Centennial Hall in 9 minutes.

Dresden Taschenberg Palace

Ice skating rink at the Taschenbergpalais Hotel in Dresden
Our last destination is very special and is a bit reminiscent of the ice rink in front of the Rockefeller Center in New York City. The ice rink in the courtyard of the Hotel Taschenbergpalais Kempinski in Dresden. Here you can indulge in royal thoughts while you do your laps on the ice, because the building of the hotel looks like a castle. From the end of November to the end of January, the Taschenbergpalais opens its doors to all ice skaters every day and you can see the spectacle with your own eyes.

If you want to discover even more royal charm during your trip to Dresden, then visit the Palace in the Great Garden, which shines in Baroque and English style.
